Geekiest Show Ever 255 – Toys with Cell Carriers

GSE255

This week’s discussion goes bad quickly when Elisa talks about her continued trials and tribulations with her cell phone bill. This leads to a discussion about all the cell carriers and the MVNO carriers that both Mike and Kevin use. Both of them have unlocked phones. After that we discuss Mike’s purchase that he blames Elisa for, in a nice way of course. He has bought the Nintendo Switch. We have a short discussion about the good and bad of this new console in the short time Mike has had it.

We wrap the show with our picks for the week. First it is Elisa with her choice of the Red Sox Destinations. A baseball fans dream tour of games. Next up Kevin has a need, a need for speed. He chooses The NASCAR Experience so he can drive really fast. After that is Mike’s pick and he is being more practical. He chooses the Troy-Bilt Flex system to take care of all kinds of yard work. We wrap up with Melissa’s musical fantasy of a drum set. Which she may also use to drive the neighbors a bit crazy.

Geekiest Show Ever 254 – It Takes a Roofie to Help

GSE254

We confirm this week that Kevin is mostly alive except to Melissa, so the Apple Watch weirdness continues.

This week’s discussion begins around Mike’s wardrobe choices as unusual as they are. Next we move on to our experiences with the recent iOS upgrade and some of the issues we faced on older devices. Mike then brings up an article from Mashable about people having sexual fantasies about their digital devices and how we anthropomorphize objects in our lives. Next is a brief discussion of the hack that wasn’t for iCloud which, leads us into a discussion about 2 step verification versus 2 factor verification. Melissa gives a great explanation of the difference. We then wrap our discussion on the ups and downs of providing tech support to family, friends and neighbors.

We wrap the show with our picks for this week. We start out with Mikes choice of Mini Desktop that could have all kinds of uses. Next up Kevin wants a gaming laptop after he saw a glowing video review over at Mobiletechreview.com. Lisa thinks fast and comes up with great outdoor fire pit to roast marshmallows with and drink wine around. Melissa rounds it out by feeding into Kevin’s fear of being watched with a home video surveillance system.

On last note, at about the 50 minute mark Melissa started having some strange audio problems that is responsible for generating the intermittent chirps you will hear.

Geekiest Show Ever 253 – OMG I Killed Kevin

This week we have the continuation of the Apple Watch saga and the inaccuracies Elisa and Kevin are still experiencing. We then discuss the recent updates MacOS, iOS and what we do or don’t think of them. Next Kevin brings up his aging Mac Mini and its lack of WiFi communication. Melissa has a need to track vehicle mileage for business expenses. Mike offers some suggestions using Automatic. Then we move on to our ISP’s being able to sell your browsing data and all the things that are watching and listening to us

We finish up with our picks. Melissa starts out with choosing an iPad Pro because her 4th generation is just too slow.  Kevin keeps the tablet theme going with the Pixel C from Google. Back to Elisa and her love of music and concerts, she chooses tickets to The Classic East. we finish up with Mike’s pick of something to help him around the yard a 20 cubic foot dump cart.
